The Better India heads to IIM-A

The Better India, as many of you might know already, is an initiative started by us (the Mrs. and I) over a year ago. It has been slowly, but surely, making its presence felt – as is evident from its  steadily growing readership.

Now, we’ve been invited to speak at the entrepreneurship summit of IIM-A. We will be talking on the influence of media on social change and of course about The Better India. Catch our talk at IIM-A’s campus post noon on the 12th of January.

The entrepreneurship summit is on the 12th and 13th of January. Here is the complete list of speakers http://www.iima-dbi.com/speakers.html and we are privileged to be a part of such a distinguished panel.

So, if you are in Ahmedabad around that time, do drop-by. It would be nice to chat over some dhoklas and chaa.

Photo Gallery on The Better India

We have started a new photo gallery on The Better India.

When you visit the site, you can notice the gallery on the right sidebar.
And yes, you too can have your photos featured on this gallery! If you want to contribute to this photo gallery, please visit the flickr pool:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/thebetterindia/

You may join this pool and add your photos. Of course, do adhere to the overall guideline that the photos should be aligned with the ‘spirit’ of The Better India. What does that mean, you ask. Simple, I say. You may submit any photo that you believe disperses positivity and is related to India in someway. Certain examples could be a sunset in Kanyakumari, a bicycle hike you recently did in the Western Ghats, a smiling face that made you happy or children playing cricket in the Gymkhana grounds of Mumbai.

Go ahead, get your photos featured on The Better India!

The Common Man

R. K. Laxman’s famous creation has usually been a passive observer of the state of affairs around him.

However, this article in The Better India talks about a few common men who have made a significant difference on people and the environment around them.

GiveIndia Partners with The Better India

I am thrilled to announce that GiveIndia has partnered with The Better India to enable our readers to make a difference in the lives of people in need.

I think this is a great step ahead for The Better India. When we started this initiative, our main aim was to showcase the good and positive stories of our wonderful country. As we moved on, we found The Better India serving to be a platform of inspiration to many. Our readers responded saying that they were glad to find a place like this, and some even have decided to implement some of the ideas written there.
GiveIndia has been doing some great work in the area of connecting donors with the right NGOs for many years now. To know more about GiveIndia and our partnership, please click here and here.

The Better India

Since the past few days, I have been working on a personal project of mine and that sort of explains the lack of frequent posting here. I am happy to say that it is now available for a quick peek: The Better India (http://www.thebetterindia.com)

I am re-producing the write-up I have written on The Better India, explaining its existence:

On a day to day basis we have been reading the Indian newspapers and magazines. Almost all of them devote their prime space to negative stories. Stories of murder, arson, scandals and gossip. However, we found that hidden inside, in the deep annals of these publications are the happier stories. Stories, to use a cliched phrase, that kindle your heart and tell you that all is not lost.

The Better India is an attempt to bring out those happy stories, those unsung heroes and heroines, those small good deeds, and showcase them to the world. Over here, you will be able to read about the incremental progress being done by the industrious people of this country, the developments happening on the social and economic front. We hope that by showcasing these here, we might be able to inspire at least one amongst you, the readers, to do something that leaves an impact. Small or big. But, an impact.

Some of the features on The Better India include a way to submit articles related to the theme that you, dear reader, might come across and want to see featured on The Better India. Feel free to explore the content there and I would request you to provide your feedback by leaving your comments here on this blog. (I haven’t yet enabled commenting on The Better India, since it is under development).

Ladies and gentlemen, The Better India
And yes, feedback solicited. Please.
